Frequently Asked Questions about Summer Reading
Q: Can you call to register?
A: For Summer Reading itself – NO. You must register in person. For programs, once you’re registered – Yes, give us a call.
Q: Can I still participate in the Children’s Summer Reading Program?
A: Students entering grades 5-8 are eligible to “double dip” and participate in both programs.
Q: Do I have to live in Southbury to participate?
A: Nope. You may live anywhere and attend any school system – homeschoolers too!
Q: I want to participate in Oxford’s or Woodbury’s Summer Reading program too. Is that okay?
A: Sure, the more the merrier! Participate in as many as you like. Check out local libraries for different programs.
Q: I’m going on vacation and won’t be around for most of the summer. What do I do?
A: You may participate as much or as little as you wish. It’s up to you. Just remember to come in to the library for your tickets before August 17th!
Q: I can’t register on Saturday, June 23rd. Can I still sign up?
A: Absolutely. That is just the first day we’re taking registrations. Any time after is also.
Q: Can I just keep track of my reading hours and not attend any special programs?
A: Yes, and vice versa. You can attend programs and not participate in the weekly drawings.
Q: Can I win multiple prizes?
A: Sure. If your ticket is pulled – you win the prize.
Q: Do I have to be there to win?
A: Nope. We’ll call you.
Q: Does reading comic books count towards my hours?
A: Yes, reading anything counts. Read books, magazines, etc. Use Kindles, Nooks, etc. Listen to audio books.
Q: Do I have to submit my reading log tickets as soon as I fill them out?
A: No. You can save them up for a particular prize or just go as you read. It’s up to you.
Q: Are book clubs still meeting during the summer?
A: Yes. All on-going programs continue in the summer.
Q: Can I find books for my summer reading list?
A: Of course. We have copies of summer reading lists from all the local schools. If a book is checked out, we’ll put it on hold or order it from another library. Just ask.
